How to Start a Family Devotion

You are currently viewing How to Start a Family Devotion

Here’s a simple guide to get you started:

1. **Set a Consistent Time**: Choose a time that works for everyone, whether it’s in the morning, during dinner, or before bedtime. Consistency is key to making it a habit.

2. **Choose a Focused Topic or Scripture**: You can follow a Bible reading plan, pick a passage from Scripture, or focus on a specific topic (like love, forgiveness, prayer, or faith).

Today, my husband was talking about a parable about the Pharisee and the tax collector in Luke 18:9-14. We talked about pride and being self-righteous.

3. **Read Scripture Together**: Start by reading a portion of the Bible. You can read aloud as a family, taking turns or appointing one person to read each time.

4. **Discuss the Passage**: After reading, ask questions to encourage reflection, such as: “What does this passage teach us?” or “How can we apply this to our lives?”

5. **Pray Together**: Take turns praying aloud or have one person lead the prayer. Be open to prayers of thanksgiving, confession, and requests for guidance.

6. **Sing Worship Songs **: Singing hymns or worship songs together can help focus everyone’s hearts on God.

7. **End with Blessing or Encouragement**: Close the devotion with words of encouragement or a blessing over your family members. You could also assign a Bible verse for everyone to meditate on during the week.

Keep it simple, and allow the devotion to be an opportunity to bond as a family while growing closer to God.

Love and Encouragement,

Eve
